Ready or Not is a tactical shooter built on Unreal Engine 5, and its minimum specs call for a GTX 960 and 8 GB of RAM. This guide gives you a free config file and the in-game settings that take load off a weak PC, for more FPS and less stutter.

Can you run Ready or Not on a low end PC?

  • OS: Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-6300
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R7 370
  • VRAM: 2 GB
  • Storage: 60 GB

Below these specs, expect low frame rates even with the config. The config helps most on PCs close to the minimum, and it won’t make an old card run like a new one.

Best Ready or Not settings for low end PCs

  • Use the Low preset to start, then raise one setting at a time while you watch your frame rate.
  • Pick FSR 3 as the upscaler. It works on any GPU. DLSS 3.7 needs an Nvidia RTX card.
  • DLSS Frame Generation also needs an Nvidia RTX card, so skip it on other GPUs.
  • Ready or Not has no ray tracing, so there is nothing to turn off.
  • Cap the frame rate at 60 with the Optional Frame Limit. If your PC can’t hold 60, cap it at 30.
  • Turn V-Sync off if your frame rate is low. It can hold your frame rate down and add input lag.
  • Set Anti-Aliasing to Low. Keep the Resolution Scale slider at 100 percent. Going above it adds supersampling, which costs the most work.
  • Borderless windowed is available. Try it if the game feels choppy in fullscreen.

Ready or Not Engine.ini location and install

  1. Download the config file with the button above and extract the zip.
  2. Close Ready or Not if it is running.
  3. Press Windows + R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReadyOrNot\Saved\Config\Windows and press Enter. If the folder does not exist, start the game once, close it, and try again. If your copy uses the WinGDK build, the folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReadyOrNot\Saved\Config\WinGDK instead.
  4. If an Engine.ini file is already in the folder, copy it somewhere safe as a backup.
  5. Copy the Engine.ini from the zip into the folder and replace the old one.
  6. Start the game.

What the config changes

Post-processing

  • Motion blur is off.
  • Depth of field is off.
  • Lens flares and light shafts are off.
  • Color fringing (chromatic aberration) is off.
  • Film grain is off.
  • Sharpening is set to 0.6.

Lighting and reflections

  • Ambient occlusion, screen-space reflections and subsurface scattering are off.
  • Contact shadows and capsule shadows are off.
  • Volumetric fog uses a coarser grid.

Shadows

  • Shadow quality is set to 2.
  • Shadow maps are capped at 1024 pixels.
  • Shadows draw over a shorter distance.
  • Small objects skip shadow casting at a higher size cutoff.

Draw distance and foliage

  • View distance is cut to 80 percent of the default.
  • Detail mode is set to 1.
  • Texture anisotropy is set to 4.
  • Grass and foliage density is set to 60 percent of the default.

Unreal Engine 5 only: Lumen, Nanite and shadow maps

  • Lumen reflections and Lumen mesh distance field tracing are off.
  • Nanite mesh detail is reduced slightly.
  • Virtual shadow maps use a lower resolution for directional and local lights.

The streaming settings turn on the async loading thread and stop forced garbage collection when levels unload, which can mean smoother loading between areas.

How to fix Ready or Not stuttering and FPS drops

  • Let the first launch finish. Unreal Engine 5 compiles shaders the first time you run a game, so expect hitches for the first few minutes.
  • Install the game on an SSD if you can. Load times and streaming both benefit.
  • Close background apps, especially browsers and launcher overlays.
  • Update your GPU driver from the official page: Nvidia, AMD or Intel.
  • On a laptop, plug in the charger and set Windows to the best performance power mode.

Undo the changes

Delete Engine.ini from the config folder, or copy your backup back in. The game rebuilds its defaults the next time it starts.

Ready or Not FAQ

Where is the Ready or Not Engine.ini file?

It is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReadyOrNot\Saved\Config\Windows. Press Windows + R, paste that path and press Enter. If the folder is missing, start the game once and close it, then try again.

Can Ready or Not run on a low end PC?

Ready or Not lists an Nvidia GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R7 370 as its minimum GPU, with 8 GB of RAM. The config helps most on PCs close to those specs. On weaker hardware, expect low frame rates even with the config.

How do I fix Ready or Not stuttering?

Let the first launch finish, because Unreal Engine 5 compiles shaders then and you will see hitches for a few minutes. Install the game on an SSD if you can. Close background apps and update your GPU driver.

What are the best Ready or Not settings for a low end PC?

Start with the Low preset and raise settings one at a time while you watch your frame rate. Pick FSR 3 as the upscaler, since it works on any GPU. Cap the frame rate at 60, or at 30 if your PC can't hold 60.

Is it safe to undo the Ready or Not config?

Yes. Delete Engine.ini from the config folder, or copy your backup back in. The game rebuilds its defaults the next time it starts. Back up any existing Engine.ini before you install the config.
