RuneScape: Dragonwilds
Low-end PC guide: FPS boost, lag and stutter fix

RuneScape: Dragonwilds config file
Free. The download link appears after a short wait.
- Put it in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\ Saved\ Config\ Windows - Engine
- Unreal Engine 5
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is built on Unreal Engine 5.3.2, and it asks for a GTX 1060 at minimum. The steps below cover a free config file that turns down the heaviest graphics work, the in-game settings to change first, and fixes for stutter on a weak PC.
Can you run RuneScape Dragonwilds on a low end PC?
- OS: Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT
- RAM: 8 GB
- VRAM: 6 GB on Nvidia, 8 GB on AMD and Intel
- Storage: 25 GB
If your PC is at or above these specs, the config and the settings below should help. A PC below them will likely struggle. The config lowers the graphics work, but it can’t make up for a slower GPU or less memory.
Best RuneScape Dragonwilds settings for low end PCs
Start with the lowest graphics options the game offers, then change these:
- Upscaler: Use DLSS 4 if you have an Nvidia RTX card, since DLSS needs one. On any other GPU, pick FSR 3. It works on older cards too.
- Frame rate cap: Set it to 60. If your PC can’t hold 60 frames per second, set it to 30. A steady 30 is smoother than a 60 that drops in and out.
- V-Sync: Turn it off. It can hold your frame rate to your monitor’s refresh rate and add input lag.
- Window mode: Pick borderless windowed if you switch between apps often.
RuneScape Dragonwilds Engine.ini location and install
- Download the zip with the button above. Unzip it and find the
Engine.inifile. - Close the game completely.
- Press Windows + R, paste
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\Config\Windowsand press Enter. If the folder doesn’t exist, start the game once, close it, and try again. - If the folder already has an
Engine.ini, rename it toEngine.ini.bak. This is your backup. - Copy the new
Engine.iniinto the folder. - Start the game.
What the config changes
The file changes only the settings listed here. It doesn’t touch network settings, so it won’t fix online lag.

- Anisotropic filtering is set to 4.
- Grass and foliage density is set to 60 percent.
Unreal Engine 5 features
- Lumen reflections are off, and Lumen no longer traces against mesh distance fields.
- Nanite detail is lowered.
- Virtual shadow maps use a lower resolution for directional and local lights.
The streaming settings turn on async loading and turn off some forced garbage collection, for fewer hitches when you move between areas.
How to fix RuneScape Dragonwilds stuttering and FPS drops
RuneScape Dragonwilds is an Unreal Engine 5 game. The first launch compiles shaders, so let that finish and expect hitches for the first few minutes.
The game needs 25 GB of storage. If you can, install it on an SSD.
Then work through the basics on Windows:
- Close background apps, such as browsers and chat programs.
- Update your GPU driver from the official site: Nvidia or AMD.
- On a laptop, plug in the power cable and set the power mode to best performance.
Undo the changes
Delete Engine.ini from the folder. If you made a backup, rename Engine.ini.bak back to Engine.ini instead. Deleting the file returns the game to its defaults.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds FAQ
Where is the RuneScape Dragonwilds Engine.ini file?
RuneScape Dragonwilds keeps it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\Config\Windows. Press Windows + R, paste that path and press Enter. If the folder isn't there, start the game once, close it and check again.
Can RuneScape Dragonwilds run on a low end PC?
RuneScape Dragonwilds needs at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, plus 8 GB of RAM. A PC that meets those specs can use this config and the settings in this guide. A PC below them will likely struggle, because the config can't replace missing hardware.
Which upscaler should I use for RuneScape Dragonwilds on a low end PC?
Use DLSS 4 if you have an Nvidia RTX card, since DLSS needs one. On any other GPU, pick FSR 3, which works on older graphics cards too.
What engine does RuneScape Dragonwilds use?
RuneScape Dragonwilds runs on Unreal Engine 5.3.2. Because it's an Unreal game, a free Engine.ini file can lower its graphics settings, including Lumen, Nanite and virtual shadow maps.
Is it safe to undo the RuneScape Dragonwilds Engine.ini changes?
Yes. Delete Engine.ini from the folder, or rename your Engine.ini.bak backup back to Engine.ini. Deleting the file returns the game to its defaults.
